Katie’s Take

Elisa and Jason were a couple I fell in love with instantly over the phone - sometimes things just work and with them, the chemistry was effortless. I am not sure who loved who over the phone first. Elisa claims she loved me first. Either way, I digress. A few key moments stood out to me from Jason and Elisa’s ceremony.

A delayed sit down

After escorting his beautiful daughter, Mr. Brown forgot to answer my age old question “who gives this woman to be with this man.”

You can see below, Mr. Brown heading back to his seat, completely oblivious to our questioning. After I repeated myself and someone nudged him, he eventually responded. Elisa, Jason, and I were already tearing up with laughter.

Why it stands out: Well, as it turns out it threw me a little off my game and I forgot to let the audience sit down afterward. I got about half way through the first paragraph, acknowledged the guests as I do and responded “Oh dear lord please sit down.” More laughs.

The secret handshake

I can’t give much away here because then it wouldn’t be a secret, but as we were getting ready to head into the ceremony suite, I could just tell the couple needed a little something extra to calm their nerves. I went to each (individually) and said “I need you to trust me. I’m teaching you my secret handshake that I do with my husband. It’s yours now too.”

Why it stands out: it gave our dear couple just the right amount of time during the ceremony to take a breath together, to have a moment, to make eye contact. I could tell a difference in their demeanor afterward.

Elisa’s take:

Jason and my experience with Katie was nothing short of magical. I ended up having to fire our original officiant, a former friend, only about 2 months before our July wedding. I was in the midst of preparing for a large trial to be held only 3 weeks before the wedding, my very first, and Jason was transitioning between jobs - needless to say, our lives were utter chaos. Our planner connected us up with Katie and we ended up meeting her over the phone only a few weeks before the wedding. The moment we spoke, we all connected - Katie has a marvelous sense of humor, a remarkable ability to put you at ease, and you can tell how much she loves celebrating true love. By the middle of our conversation, we knew we wanted her to marry us. She cleared her holiday for us and we pretty much booked her before we hung up the phone! Over the next few weeks, Katie would text us periodically to learn more about our story, and provided beautiful insight, words of wisdom, and even helped me get started writing my vows (the morning of the wedding, no less).

When I walked into the processional room on the day of, our first time meeting, Katie cried when she saw me. It felt like we’d known each other for years. After the ceremony, all our friends and loved ones asked us where we had met her and how many years we had known her! She even taught a secret handshake that she and her husband share to help ease our nerves, which we immediately used as we started the ceremony. Katie laughed and cried right along with us as if she was family. She fostered the most beautiful, heartfelt, magical and momentous ceremony for us, and I couldn’t have been more glad to meet her and now know her. Katie is truly a rare and sparkling gem of a person.

The Love Story

Jason and I met the best way possible: through a lifelong mutual friend. However, the very first time we met, we were both dating other people, but a couple of years later, that mutual friend put us in a DnD game together and then proceeded to put us in the most outrageous, hilarious, and awkward situations with each other in the game. We were, at first, just friends with an embarrassing level of romantic and intimate tension, and then we finally started dating in the summer of 2014. Four colleges, three degrees between the two of us, three different apartment moves for Jason, 9 trips to Florida, an uncountable number of re-watches of the first four seasons of The West Wing, and countless days spent laughing together, Jason proposed on February 17, 2023.

We later got married July 4, 2024, after ten unforgettable years together. We have been together through our most momentous life occasions and achievements, stuck it out through awful heartbreak, and spent the every single day laughing with, screaming at (in a loving way), and bewitched by each other.
